Cheers to all of you planning an adventure elopement in Croatia! Are you still searching for a perfect place for an intimate wedding or an elopement on the Croatian coast? Heck yes, there are many 🙂 but we are going to make your decision a bit easier!
Nature Park Biokovo is one of the best adventure elopement locations in Croatia
Nature park Biokovo is our number one favorite place on the Dalmatian coast where you can experience a bit of adventure, relax with stunning panoramic views and say your vows in one of the many breathtaking locations.
The Nature park Biokovo is convenient because you can organize your elopement in Croatia to be in the presence of your family and friends very easily. Or, if you want to escape from crowds (note: during the season it gets pretty crowded but at certain times of the day it tends to be nice and calm) this is a place to go for your elopement.
In this post, we will tell you about an elopement in Nature park Biokovo through a story from Jeannette’s and Nigel’s pre-wedding session. We are thankful they chose us to be their elopement photographer and videographer in Croatia!
Well, it does not start at Biokovo immediately, but in the famous historical center of Split city.
Jeanette and Nigel contacted us around 6 months before they were about to arrive in Croatia. They reached out with a simple plan – make some pre-wedding photos in beautiful Split.
But, full of ideas as we are, we suggested an extra option, to take some hours from walking around the city of Split and go to Biokovo Nature Park. We presented them with the idea and the experience we have in guiding adventure hiking tours there.
The convenient thing was that we also have a van so there was no problem with the transfer nor stopping anywhere at any point we all wanted. We were so happy when they immediately accepted. The rest of the communication ran smoothly via email and we arranged a meeting point and help them to choose hair and make-up stylists in Split.
We met them in a bar just next to their hotel in the very heart of Diocletian’s palace. After a short coffee and talking, we were all ready to go for a walk through the streets of Split. Honestly, it was October and we did not expect that many people in the Split city center. But crowds were everywhere, in every little street, on every square.
If you are a person enjoying the attention, the crowded streets of Split are a place for you. For the four of us, it was ok for the first few minutes, but after that, all the applause was a bit too much. However, we managed to find good light and capture some moments with a Split city walls backdrop.
Of all the photos, this one is our favorite. It is very documentary and is a real state of the Split vibe, the way we feel it. There are people on every corner and we can feel the city’s energy on this pretty sunny day.
However, we were all relieved when we moved away from the city buzz to more peaceful, natural, and fresh-air locations. The first stop was the Cetina river with its jungle-like nature and sounds of water running towards Omiš. We felt immediately that Jeannette and Nigel got more relaxed and focused on each other rather than on the people around us. This is also one of the options for elopement in Croatia.
Here is some more practical information if you considering Biokovo as your adventure elopement or wedding destination:
The narrow road goes all the way up to the top and highest peak St. Jure so it is convenient because you can see many locations in a few hours.
There is an entrance fee but at the moment of writing this article, there were no additional fees for wedding or elopement photography.
It can get busy with many cars and minibusses during the season, especially in the morning hours, so if you plan your elopement in July or August, then opt for very very early morning or late afternoon sunset elopement. Most of the visitors are driving to the highest peak St. Jure and not walking far away from the main road so still, even in the highest season, you can find many remote and quiet places within 1-3 miles of hiking distance.
The weather on the mountain can be unpredictable because the high altitude is around 1700m.
So it is good to have layered clothes like Jeanette and Nigel did (in the city it was freaking hot and about the time for sunset on Biokovo they were wearing puffer jackets and scarf – who would have thought)
The road is not completely accessible during winter due to snow. Of course, you can hike from Makarska but it takes a few hours so not available for large groups.
Free-range animals are roaming around, very often on the main road so the traffic goes slooooow. But, it is part of the experience, in the end, you are on their territory, right? All animals are
Used to people and very friendly, especially if you have food with you, they are going to love you haha!
It can get windy which is great for photos. The weather can also change from sunny to cloudy within minutes but that only means we have a variety of light for photos and video filming which is great. We, as elopement photographers and videographers, really love different weather conditions and a variety of natural light. It is always a challenge for us.
At this moment Biokovo Skywalk is being built. We still don’t know how it is going to look at the end, but it seems promising for visitors to have an interesting point of view below themselves.
However, we believe it is way more adventurous to enjoy nature as it is rather than in some artificial structures. If we go to Biokovo as a photographer and videographer of your adventure elopement, we would take you off the beaten path and far from tourist groups that stick to the main road. Just you and nature, as it is, simple and beautiful.
With Jeannette and Nigel, we did not do much hiking, rather were in amazing locations near the main road because it was already afternoon and the wind was pretty harsh.
We got to the viewpoint that overlooks the whole bay right in time for an epic sunset, even if it was freaking cold wind blowing.
We are thankful to Jeannette and Nigel for trusting us and letting us organize and capture this adventure session for them.
