Our 5 tips for your perfect Croatia engagement
Choose a secluded location, stay away from the crowds
First of all, you need to think about the preferred location where you would like to propose your partner. Will it be by the sea, in a forest, underneath high cliffs, in the mountains… Croatia is full of great engagement venues and people usually choose one near the location where they are staying when visiting Croatia.
The single most important thing regarding your engagement in Croatia is to find a secluded and empty location. Depending on the time of the year in which you are visiting Croatia, this might be easier or harder. For example, July and August are the most crowded months in Croatia and it’s a bit harder to find empty locations during that period of the year, especially if they are in popular tourist destinations such as Dubrovnik. We don’t need to mention why you don’t want to propose to your partner in a place full of people, right? It’s simply not ‘that’.
But worry not, because even in the middle of the summer, it’s possible to have great engagement in a secluded place. The next paragraph will give you some additional information on how this might be possible.

Choose the right time of the day
Most, if not all the engagements we had in Croatia were during the sunset hours. That’s totally logical, romance and sunsets go hand in hand. But you know what else goes hand in hand with sunsets in Croatia? A bunch of people want to enjoy the sunset, maybe right from the location where you intended to propose to your partner. What then? There are things you can do even in this situation, and having a backup location in the area is definitely one of them.
Mornings and sunset periods are the best times of the day to propose to your partner in Croatia. That goes for cases in which you want to hire an engagement photographer to document your proposal. If this is not the case and you want to do it completely alone, then there are basically no limits.
Mornings in Croatia are beautiful and easily the quietest part of the day and we are not sure why more people don’t want to propose to their partner during the early dawn. Think about it, be different, sunrises are just as cool as sunsets, and most places are empty in the early morning.
Hire a professional engagement photographer
That’s us. We are a bit biased here, we admit it. It’s completely up to you if you want your engagement documented or not. But we do know a few cases where people regretted not hiring a professional photographer for this kind of situation.
Let us tell you how this usually works with us as Croatia engagement photographers. You contact us and we secretly arrange everything without the knowledge of your partner (proposals are secret in most cases). We then arrive at a location and wait for you and your partner, not in the exact spot but somewhere in the area. You and your partner then proceed to the engagement spot and we use telephoto lenses to capture the moment. We never come close to you and usually, people notice us only when we start walking toward them and the proposal is over. Then we leave you in privacy for a while and have a short photo session after that.
Basically, everything is customizable in regard to your wishes and vision of your engagement in Croatia.
Make it more than just the engagement
People usually tend to oversimplify it. For example, they drive to a certain location for half an hour, arrive there, propose their partner and that’s it. What to do now, head back or go somewhere else? Try to incorporate some additional things in your Croatia engagement, picnic for example. Picnic is a great add-on for any event and we always recommend it as a part of the engagement.
Then, we had a few engagements which included the musician, usually just one on the acoustic instrument. This is also a great option and can be easily arranged. The musician usually plays just a few songs, but sometimes it can really make a difference.
Champagne is a must when having an engagement in Croatia, make sure it’s cold too, and that you have proper glasses. Usually, we are the ones bringing the cold champagne to your engagement venue since it would be too obvious if you bring it.
Don’t let the nervousness ruin the perfect moment
Nervousness ruins everything and it’s very easy to be nervous before your engagement. But try your best to overcome it. Go together for a few shoots somewhere. Just to relax and have a nice time together. There’s really no real reason to be nervous at all. You’ll be alone with your partner and we are sure she (because all of our engagements so far were like this) will say yes. Relax and enjoy the moment!
